Moscow, March 1, IRNA – Iran and Russia on Thursday signed a document for a three-year cooperation to fight drugs.

Secretary General of Iran's Drugs Control Headquarters Eskandar Momeni and Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev finalized the cooperation document on Thursday.

The Russian Interior Minister said that his country is ready for growing contact in campaign against drugs within frameworks of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and underlined importance of regional cooperation to fight drug trafficking on extra-national level. Iran plays considerable role in minimizing demand for drugs and preventing its use, while treating and rehabilitating the addicts and bringing them back to society.

He noted that Russian interior ministry is keen on benefiting from Iran's experience in lowering demand for drugs, suggesting representatives of their related institutions to exchange views and share experiences.

Meanwhile, in another meeting Momeni and Chairman of the Russian Dumas Committee on Security and Corruption Control Vasilii Piskarev underlined Iran-Russia cooperation on serious campaign against drugs trafficking.

They also underlined information sharing and consultations to fight drug trafficking and terrorism.

The two sides' envoys stressed that if all countries abide by their joint international responsibility, terrorism and drugs will be eliminated and just a few countries will not shoulder the responsibility for the campaign.
