Vienna, March 16, IRNA – Minister of the Interior Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli in a meeting with the head of Victor Ivanov, Director of the Federal Narcotics Service of Russia stressed on the formation of a joint working group for realization and implementation of topics endorsed by the two sides.
Fazli arrived in Vienna on Sunday night for participating in the 59th session of the anti-drug commission which started on Monday. During the 3-day meeting, member countries discussed the main international anti-drug session which is to be held on April 19-21 at the United Nations in New York.
The main axis of Iran-Russia cooperation includes topics such as the need for focus on overlapping two topics of terrorist acts and smuggling of narcotic drugs and financing some terrorist groups through drug smuggling.
Expressing concern over the approach of certain countries, Europeans in particular, in downgrading the threats caused by the global problem of smuggling drugs and purposely lowering it down to a health problem is another axis of Iran-Russia bilateral cooperation in this regard.
Yet another area of bilateral trade is outlining different fields for Iran-Russia cooperation within the framework of plans such as ‘five-fold initiative of the regional countries’, ‘Caspian Sea littoral states group’, and ‘four-fold group of Iran, Russia, Pakistan and Afghanistan’.
