

Tehran, Oct 27, IRNA – Drug trafficking is a global problem and needs regional cooperation, Sergei Ivanov a former advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday.
He made the remarks in a meeting with Head of the Strategic Research Center of the Expediency Council Ali-Akbar Velayati.
Ivanov referred to increase of drug production in Afghanistan, adding that the issue is against all regional states' interest.
He called drug trafficking a global problem and urged enhancement of cooperation between regional states against the production and distribution of drug.
Velayati for his part warned about terrorist groups' penetration into the Central Asian countries.
Regional states should not be indifferent towards unrests in the Central Asian states, he added.
Velayati pointed out that drug trafficking provides part of terrorists' income.
Referring to the terrorist groups' efforts for penetrating into the Central Asia, the official said that regional states including Iran, Russia and China should not be indifferent towards terrorists' plan for provoking unrests in the region.
Drug trafficking is increasing in Afghanistan despite US promise to eliminate it, said Velayati.
