Moscow, Oct 24, IRNA – Russian Federal Drug Control Service Director Viktor Ivanov said that Iran plays an active role in fighting narcotics, which is useful and valuable for the entire world.

Talking to IRNA before leaving Moscow for Tehran Saturday to take part in the penta-lateral meeting on narcotics control, he added that Tehran's major role in restricting the threat of narcotics produced in Afghanistan has so far yielded good results and led to seizure of big packages.

Touching on Iran-Russia cooperation in the field, he said that their coordinative measures in the international scene, especially in the UN, are very effective and important.

He also called on the regional states to adopt measures to counter the drugs, noting that five Caspian Sea littoral states have so far implemented three joint anti-drug operations from 2010 to 2014.

Iran and Russia have extensive cooperation in anti-drug campaign and several rounds of talks have so far been held by the two countries' officials, Ivanov said.

As to Tehran meeting, he said that pentalateral talks of Iran, Russia, Pakistan-Tajikistan, and Azerbaijan as well as Tehran-Moscow negotiations will help promote cooperation in the field.

Criticizing NATO for what he called as noncooperation in fighting drugs, Ivano further said that westerners are claiming that they shoulder only the campaign against terrorists and that's Pakistan and Afghanistan which should undertake drug control.
