Birjand, Razavi Khorassan Prov., July 13, IRNA – Commander of Drug Campaign Police Ali Moayedi said on Monday that some 175 tons of drugs have been confiscated since beginning of the current year of 1394, a figure showing 25 percent increase compared to the preceding period.

Moayedi told reporters that Iranian police focus its campaign against illicit drugs on eastern provinces on belief that they are gate of entry of drugs to the country.

He said statistics show that Iranian common border with Afghanistan has become insecure for drug-traffickers, while over the past two decades 85 percent of confiscations were on Afghan borders.

He deplored that countries neighboring Iran have no cooperation with Iran in campaign against drug-trafficking.

He said that everyday we are witnessing drugs confiscation on Afghan common border with Iran.

The official said 95 percent of the illicit drugs being seized by police are of traditional quality.

He said efforts will be made to identify new industrial substances to declare to the public.
