Iran, Afghanistan sign joint border agreement

In the third meeting of Border Guard Commanders of Iran and Afghanistan held in the Afghan city of Nimrouz, a joint border agreement was signed.

Commander of Iranˈs Border Guards Brigadier General Qassem Rezaei accompanied by borader guards commanders of provinces neighboring Afghanistan, including Sistan and Baluchistan, Khorasan Razavi and Southern Khorasan met with Commander of Afghanistan Border Guards Major General Mohammad Shafiq Fazli.

In the meeting, General Fazli referred to bilateral interactions which led to an decrease in border problems, said that Afghanistan has been engaged in a war against terrorism, Al-Qaeda and drug traffickers for more than three decades and there is hope that through unity and brotherhood existing between the border guards of the two countries the enemies would be defeated.

General Qassem Rezaei, for his part, said that ties between Iran and Afghanistan at a very good level and growing and the two sides have no border problem, which could not be solved.

The two countries signed an agreement to promote security of border areas, render better services to border dwellers by increasing the number of border marketplaces and offering services in deprived border areas and further cooperation in the fight against drug smugglers and bandits.
