Iran and Afghanistan boosts media campaign on drug prevention

7 January 2015- DCHQ Acting Secretary General Dr. Jazini met with visiting deputy of the Ministry Of Information And Culture Of Afghanistan, Ms. Simin Hassan Zadeh on 5 January 2015.During this meeting they discussed how to enhance the long-standing relationship between I.R. Iran and Afghanistan on illicit narcotic drugs in particular on mass media partnership.

Dr. Jazini informed the Deputy Minister that DCHQ will continue to cooperate closely with the Afghan government over the long term to counter the harmful effects of illicit drugs, organized crime and corruption on Afghanistan and its people.

Afghanistan suffers one of the world's highest prevalence rates for opiate use and HIV and hepatitis are widespread among injecting drug users. At present, more than one million Afghans are drug dependent. Poppy cultivation and production have also increased rapidly in Afghanistan in recent years.
