Tehran, June 26, IRNA – First Vice President Esˈhag Jahangiri said that narcotic drugs and hallucinogens have raised concerns among nations and governments, noting that based on international reports, drugs, crimes and terrorism are the three main threats to global peace and security.

He made the remarks in a ceremony marking destruction of 50,000 tons of narcotics Thursday on the occasion of World Day of Fighting Drugs.

Jahangiri further said, ˈNarcotics are considered the invisible hand of organized crimes.ˈ

Security, stability and development of countries are seriously linked to the issue of drugs, he said, noting that fighting the evil phenomenon and safeguarding social assets should continue seriously.

Huge profits from illegal drug trade persuade individuals to undertake the inhumane act, he said.

Production and cultivation of opium are mainly done in the neighboring state of Afghanistan, Jahangiri said, adding that the using Iran as a route for transfer of narcotics to the West and Europe has inflicted serious damage on Iran.

There is a relationship between drug smuggling and destructive processes such violence and terrorism in all regions, Middle East in particular, he said, noting that one the financial resources of terrorist groups is revenue from drug trafficking.
