TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The ambassadors and representatives of member states of the Mini-Dublin Group in Tehran will pay a visit to Iran’s eastern border regions.
The Dublin Group is an informal consultation and coordination body concerned with the global, regional and country-specific problems of illicit drugs production, trafficking and demand. It is comprised of the 27 member states of the European Union, Australia, Canada, Japan, Norway, the United States, the European Commission and UNODC.
Director-General of Iran’s Anti-Narcotics Headquarters for International Relations Mahmoud Bayat said the Tehran ambassadors of the Mini-Dublin Group will visit the eastern borders of Iran to get familiar with the anti-narcotic measures taken by the Islamic Republic and the country’s efforts to fight drug trafficking from Afghanistan into Iran.
He said the visit has been jointly planned by the Anti-Narcotics Headquarters and the United Nations Country Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
The Mini-Dublin Group in the Islamic Republic of Iran has the main tasks of compiling local situation reports, facilitating coordination on drug policy and assistance, conducting a dialogue with the host country on drug control, drawing up recommendations, and implementing the orientations of the Central Dublin Group and regional chairs.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Bayat underlined that the Islamic Republic has constantly called for the development of anti-narcotics cooperation and urged other countries and the UN to fulfill their responsibilities as to supplying Iran with technical equipment for fighting drug trafficking.
He also noted that the UNODC executive director has recently appreciated Iran’s efforts in fighting drugs.
