Commander of the anti-narcotics squad of Iran’s Law Enforcement Police General Ali Moayyedi announced that his forces in cooperation the Pakistani drug combat troops have discovered and seized one ton of illicit drugs near the two countries’ shared of border.

TEHRAN(Police News) - “This shipment was discovered in joint cooperation by the police forces of Iran and Pakistan and it was eventually seized along Iran’s border with Pakistan,” Moayyedi said.

He underlined that a total of more than 10 tons of narcotics have been seized in the Iranian police troops' joint cooperation with their comrades in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman and Pakistan in the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2013).

General Moayyedi pointed to the 15-percent growth in the discovery of various kinds of narcotics, and said, “A sum of 430 tons of illicit drugs have been discovered since the beginning of the current year.”

He reiterated that a total of 65 drug traffickers have been killed in 110 armed clashes with police in the current year, and said, “A total of 2,000 drug gangs have been disbanded by the police this year.”

Iran lies on a transit corridor between opium producing Afghanistan and drug dealers in Europe.

The Islamic Republic has emerged as the leading country fighting drug trafficking after making 81 percent of the world's total opium seizures.

Over the past eight years, it has contributed more than $50 million annually to Afghan anti-narcotics efforts.
